Livestock trade in the 21st century takes place online, much to the benefit of the animals. In Lower Austria, a farmer and a veterinarian have developed a new app for this purpose.
"Resi, Tyrolean grey cattle, 6th lactation, super loyal, robust cow." With her big cow eyes, the silver-grey beauty looks into the camera, her profile view is also impressive. The highest bid is currently 1600 Euros. There is still time to win the bid. With the Viehworld app, farmers can easily buy and sell their animals over the internet. Around 2,500 users are already actively doing so, as part-time farmer Florian Aspalter and veterinarian Wolfgang Schiessl, the inventors of the app, explain.
Viehworld has been online since September this year. The app has already been downloaded more than 5,000 times. And recently, in addition to cattle, sheep and goats can also be purchased online. The idea for the app came to veterinarian Schiessl in the course of his work: "I deal 80 percent with cattle farms and there with mostly young farmers." One of the main problems of young farmers is a lack of time. "I thought about where we could save time," Schiessl outlines the brainstorming. And the answer was obvious: in horse trading.
