Farm animals can now be auctioned via a new app, which is intended to make trade more ecological.
The auction market for cattle alone in Austria amounts to 77 million euros with a good 60,000 animals - these change hands mainly at livestock auctions in halls. Most of the time, the cattle intended for sale are washed the day before (so that they appear in the best possible light at the auction), loaded and delivered. They spend the night chained up next to others in the auction halls, and the next day they are (in the best case) bought by their new owners, who then take them away - otherwise they go back to their old home.
The whole procedure not only means stress for the animals, but also for the farmers. The "viehworld" app, which has been on the market since September, aims to change that.
