Online trade is more popular than ever and has many advantages. The new app "Viehworld" is a veterinarian's idea - it saves farm animals a lot of stress.
Many people have long taken it for granted that they can do their banking, book a training course or order a new stethoscope with their mobile phone. "Why," asked Lower Austrian cattle practitioner Wolfgang Schiessl from Rabenstein an der Pielach, "do farmers actually still have to go to cattle auctions in this digital age?"
The answer to this question is a new online platform on which registered farmers can offer animals for sale or buy them via the "eAMA" login - directly from the barn. The idea, realised by Schiessl and Florian Aspalter, a banker and asset manager, combines several positive aspects: It saves the animals transport stress, protects the environment by reducing the number of kilometres travelled, saves farmers time and maintains the health of the animals, which no longer have to come together in large groups for trading. The app "Viehworld" has been available since September and has already been downloaded more than 6,000 times. Vetjournal spoke with the inventive veterinarian Schiessl.
How does "Viehworld" work exactly?
The system is very simple. Any farmer who has an animal for sale takes photos or videos of it, provides the most important information about the animal and uploads everything online. Other farmers can look at what is available on the market and also see which animals are offered in the vicinity and at what price. The purchase itself is then handled directly between buyer and seller. By the way, only farmers with "eAMA" identification can log in.
